Introducing Scott E. Wortman
Scott E. Wortman is a Partner at Warshaw Burstein, LLP, a New York City based law firm that has provided market leading legal services to the financial industry at large for more than 80 years. Scott chairs the law firm’s Creditor’s Defense Litigation and Compliance Group, representing a wide range of clients in federal and state litigation and enforcement agency investigations and actions. In addition, his practice group works with clients to design and implement compliance programs, and to monitor and improve internal controls and due diligence for financial institutions, including national and state chartered banks, creditors, debt purchasers and members of the accounts receivable industry. Scott also handles audits and investigations and is active in advising clients on the Dodd-Frank regulatory reform legislation and related rulemaking.
Before joining Warshaw Burstein, LLP, Scott worked for seven years as a Partner at a prominent collection law firm, winning various industry awards for legal collection strategies and excellence in compliance. He served as the head of the firm’s creditors’ rights defense litigation and compliance department. You might recognize Scott as the author of the White Papers for New York Debt Collection Laws and other guest blogs published by the National List of Attorneys.
Scott serves on the New York State Bar Association’s Banking Law Committee and is an active member in various industry trade groups and committees. Additionally, he is a Member of the Board of Directors for the Center for Behavioral Health Services, which is an agency directly under the auspices of the New York State Office of Mental Health.

Scott, his wife and their two young children live in Hastings-on-Hudson, where they enjoy spending quality time with family and friends. He is also an avid musician who enjoys composing, recording and playing music.
