DCS Conference Recap

DCS2015_150x150A drawing for one free DCS registration fee (value $1295) was offered to NL attorney members. The winner was Andrew D. Sonnek, Esq., Attorney & Co-Owner of Sonnek & Goldblatt, Ltd., Cincinnati, OH. Andrew provided us with the following report on his attendance at DCS.

Thanks to the free registration provided by The National List, Sonnek & Goldblatt, Ltd. was lucky enough to attend the DCS Conference in Austin, Texas. The conference was an excellent opportunity for us to network with our industry peers and work on client development. Because our collections law firm services Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky, it was beneficial to be at a conference that involved national creditors and vendors. A particularly helpful seminar was one in which representatives from the CFPB and the FTC offered insights and commentary on particular cases and regulations. Compliance is always at the forefront for our firm, and this session was very beneficial in that regard. The National List continues to be a great partner of Sonnek & Goldblatt, Ltd. for business development and assisting us in staying on top of industry trends and compliance. Thank you!

Networking opportunities this year included Speed Networking (meet 20 people in 30 minutes), a “Meat” and Greet Poolside BBQ, a Welcome Reception in the Expo Hall, and an Ice Cream Social.

Educational sessions began with a panel discussing “The Great Debate: Collection Effectiveness and Compliance.” Attendees learned more about how to maintain effective collection techniques while ensuring a compliant atmosphere. Five Fast Track Presentations featured “What’s New with ATDS,” “I Like to Sue…with an Eye on Compliance,” The Changing Face of the ARM Industry,” “New State Collection Laws and the Impact on the ANPR,” and “Performance Management, Things to Think About & Avoid.” What’s the Buzz in the Industry included a “Washington Update,” thoughts on “Debt Buying & Selling,” and the perspective of “Credit Unions.” Also well-attended were the “Special Attorney Sessions, Part 1 & 2: FDCPA and Case Law Updates,” roundtable sessions and technology panels.

From small attorney firms to large agencies, the DCS Conference is the perfect networking and educational industry event. It’s a great opportunity to meet with peers and industry professionals or to find new products and services. We encourage more of you to attend in 2016.
