Founded in 1960 by Robert W. Kohn, the Kohn Law Firm S.C. is an award-winning and nationally recognized debt collection law firm. They concentrate their practice primarily on credit card, municipal, medical and various other types of consumer debt, as well as repossession actions and insurance subrogation claims. Brenda Majewski, Director of Operations, told NL, “As a 15-year member of the National List, the firm knows it can count on NL for introductions and recommendations in the industry.”
The firm covers the entire state of Wisconsin. Its clients consist primarily of large national credit issuers and debt buyers. They also include local municipalities and other retail businesses and service providers. In addition to accolades from clients, they are also proud of their positive relationships with the BBB, the Dept. of Financial Institutions, the consumer bar and consumers. “We have learned that our greatest successes come when we use legal remedies together with professional, ethical and respectful treatment of our clients’ customers.” The firm also attributes its success to its staff, technology and commitment to compliance.
Staff: One of the firm’s primary concerns is the hiring, training and retention of experienced and qualified staff members. Their staff is currently comprised of 12 attorneys and a total of approximately 125 employees, organized into individual departments.
Technology: The Firm uses Collection Master as its primary collection and litigation software. It allows for the electronic handling of virtually all phases of account collection, including lawsuit – from intake and first demand to the documentation of telephone contacts, payments and legal proceedings. They have rigid security standards and disaster recovery procedures.
Compliance: The firm is committed to compliance with its clients’ requirements and expectations and the laws governing debt collection and the legal profession. They adhere strictly to the FDCPA and the Wisconsin Consumer Act. They regularly pass rigorous client audits, conducted both remotely and on-site. The high degree of both legal and client compliance can be attributed to the early creation of a dedicated “Compliance Department” within the firm.
The firm currently has four shareholders: Robert E. Potrzebowski, Jr., Matthew J. Richburg, David A. Ambrosh, and Jason D. Hermersmann.
Rob Potrzebowski is the Majority Shareholder and President. He has served on NARCA’s Education and State Government Affairs committees. Rob is happy and proud to call Bob Kohn, the firm’s founder, his mentor. He worked with Bob for years before becoming Bob’s partner and eventually his successor.
Matt Richburg is the firm’s Managing Shareholder. He is a member of NARCA, currently serving on its State Government Affairs Committee. He is the President of the Wisconsin Creditors’ Rights Association and serves on its Board of Directors. He has been with the firm for 16 years, and resides in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.
